Windows XP - A Pleasant Surprise...Or Not!?
Lately, there has been a lot of hype around all these XP products. First, it was Microsoft releasing their Windows XP. Then, AMD followed suit and released their Athlon XP processors. Everywhere you look you can see the acronym XP. I found it very amusing that this acronym is gaining so much popularity. Why do I find it amusing? Well, XP is not exactly a new thing. It was a very popular Christian symbol throughout the Middle Ages. Back then, it was not exactly XP as in English letters "Ex Pee", but rather, it was in Greek. "c" (chi) and "r" (rho) were the first two letters of the word "cristos" (Christos or Christ).
Legend has it that Roman emperor Constantine had a vision in
his dreams of the chi-rho symbol in the sky along with some Greek words
saying "In this sign you will conquer". The next day,
Constantine placed the chi-rho symbol onto his soldier's shields and won
a battle in which his troops were outnumbered. This was the
determining battle that won him his place as emperor. Constantine
was the first emperor to assign the Christian faith as the religion of
the Roman empire. |
